The short version: your answers in the free check never leave your browser, documents are deleted within a day, and no human here reads your file.
The free eligibility check
It runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not transmitted to us, and we could not read them if we wanted to. We do count that a check was started and which result page it ended on, as described below, without any of the answers. If your browser saves your last result, that copy sits on your own device and you can clear it.
Asking for quotes. Every result page carries a form you can use to ask for quotes from providers. It sends nothing until you tick its box, which is never ticked for you, and press the button. If you do, we store your email, the country you chose, your budget bracket, what you want quoted, the result page you reached and the sequence of your answer choices as codes, not as the questions. We send that summary to at most three providers we have checked, who may contact you with a quote and may charge for their work; some of them pay us for the introduction. The legal basis is your consent, article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to hello@usehomeport.com, and we stop sharing from that moment. The request is kept for twelve months and then deleted.
Fonts and third parties
The typefaces on this site are served from our own address. No font, script or image is loaded from a third-party host unless you allow the two advertising tags described below, so opening a page here tells nobody else that you visited.
Documents you upload
- Processed in the European Union, not moved elsewhere.
- Deleted automatically within 24 hours, and immediately if you delete them yourself.
- Never used to train anything, by us or by any supplier.
- Never read by a person here. The pipeline is automated end to end.
What we measure
Visits are counted in two ways, and neither one identifies you. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts pages, referrers and countries without cookies or local storage; Cloudflare processes it for us on the basis of legitimate interest. Our own counter records five events, each as one line with the time: a page opened, a check started, a check finished and which result page it showed, a buy button clicked and for which product, and the thank-you page after a payment. No address, no device detail, no cookie and no identifier travels with them. For the free check we also count, for each question screen, how many people saw it, how many answered it, how many went back, and how many seconds an answer took, with the same short-lived visit token the other counts carry, so we can see where people stop. That token is a random string made when the page opens, kept only for as long as the tab is open, never stored on your device and never linked to a name or an address. The answer itself is never sent; if you answer the one-question poll on the result screen, only which of the four answers you chose is counted, nothing else.
Two advertising tags, the Google Ads conversion tag and the Meta pixel, exist so we can learn which ad brought a purchase. The Google tag loads on every page in Google’s consent mode with all storage denied: in that state it sets no cookie and reads none, and it sends Google cookieless pings that carry the page address and your IP address, which Google processes under its own policy. It is switched to storing only after you choose Allow measurement in the banner. The Meta pixel loads only after that choice, never before. When the tags run with your permission they receive the page you are on, the fact of a purchase on the thank-you page, and the technical data Google and Meta collect under their own policies. They do not receive the price, your answers or your documents.
Your choice is stored in your browser under one key, so we can honour it without asking again. Change it at any time with the Privacy choices link at the bottom of every page: choosing Only what is needed tells the tags to stop, and from the next page you open they no longer load. Stripe, our payment processor, sends the thank-you page a reference for the checkout session; it is shown to nobody and kept nowhere on this site, and if you allowed the tags it is passed to Google only as the transaction reference so one purchase is not counted twice.
What we keep, and for how long
- Your email address and purchase record, kept while you have access, and afterwards only as accounting law requires.
- The event counts described above, which contain nothing about you.
- The birth record quiz: what you type about your ancestor, and the email you give before checkout, are kept so we can send you a fixed price and, if you order, attach the details to your order. We write to you about that request only to send the price and to answer you. A request that does not become an order is deleted after ninety days. The legal basis is your request, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- Ask us: the questions you type into the Ask us helper are sent to our helper service to be answered and are not stored by it; the conversation stays in your browser tab. If you choose to send a question to a person, we keep your email address, that question and the conversation before it, so we can answer you, and delete them after twelve months. The legal basis is your request, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- Nothing else. We do not build profiles and we do not sell anything to anyone.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold, correct it, or have it deleted, and we answer within a month. The contact address is on the page about who we are. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Berlin data protection authority.
